A Note From The Principal

Dear Roosevelt Families,

Welcome to the 2023-43 school year and to our Roosevelt School Family! I hope you had an enjoyable and fun summer while staying safe and healthy! The 2023-24 school year will begin in a few days and we are so excited to welcome all the students back into the building. It was wonderful seeing so many of you all at Get to Know You Conferences. I know I can speak for the entire Roosevelt staff when I say we are excited and ready to begin another great year of learning with all of our students and families!

Here is a link to our Roosevelt School Family Handbook. This contains a lot of information about our school and is a great resource to hold onto.

Just a few reminders: Please be aware of street signs for parking and no parking areas around the school when dropping off and picking up students. The front of the building on Sawyer Street is a loading/drop off zone so you are not able to park and leave your vehicle there at the beginning or end of the day. The drop off area on Coolidge Street is between the driveways (the edge of the fencing) up to the sign on the west end of the street. There will be orange cones marking the drop off area as well. Please feel free to pull up in that area and let your student out onto the sidewalk. Students should not exit your vehicle into the street in order to stay safe. You are not able to park in the drop off area, so please do not get out of your vehicle when dropping your student off. If you would like to walk your student to the back playground to line up, please park in an appropriate area.

Each school day begins at 7:45am. Supervision on the black top begins at 7:30 but students should arrive as close to 7:40 as possible (but no earlier than 7:30am). Remember that the playground is off limits before school and it is not an active recess time with so many students out there at one time. Students should report right to their teacher designated line (look for signs the first two weeks to get in routine for where they are). Staff will be outside on the back playground greeting students/families and helping them find their teacher lines at the start of the day. You will be able to recognize staff members on the first day in military green colored Roosevelt t-shirts, so please let us know if you have any questions or need any help! The first bell will ring at 7:40 signaling for students to line up if they are not there yet.

The school day ends at 2:45pm. Just a reminder that all families need to wait outside of the building for students as they will be dismissed by their teacher. Students in grades K-2 will be dismissed by their teacher through doors 6, 7 or 8 and walk to the front of the building on Sawyer Street to find their parent/pick up person if needed. Students in grades 3-5 will be dismissed out doors 2 and 3 and walked around to Coolidge Street to find their parent/pick up person. Any students riding the bus or their bike will exit out door 2.

Kindergarten Families: Be sure to check and confirm you know which first day of school your child will be attending. Kindergarten students were sent their staggered start for the first day in June (or August if you moved to us). Students attend either September 1st OR September 5th. All kindergarten students attend together beginning on September 6th. If you have questions or are unsure, please contact your child’s teacher or call the main office.

Tyler Street Construction Update: Tyler Street alongside Roosevelt Elementary will be open and usable for drop off, buses, and parking beginning September 1st. There will be some terrace restoration or final things completed on the north side of the street that needs to be completed during the work day, so there could be days that one side of the street at a time is marked with “no parking” signs. Please watch for and obey the city’s no parking signs as they can ticket if you do not follow them. Students, families and staff should use caution when walking on the sidewalk until the restoration is complete.

The Roosevelt Staff and I look forward to another successful school year of growing and learning together! We thank you for your continued support of our school and the students' learning this year. I wish you all the best at the start of the year!

Sincerely,

Kristin Burgert, Principal

Hello, Roosevelt Families - We are excited to announce an improved field trip process for families. Beginning in the 2023-2024 school year, all field trip permission slips will be electronic and we are moving to cashless payments for field trips. This is a new process for our entire district and is meant to streamline and improve our service to families.

Additional information will be shared by teachers as they plan for field trips. However, we want to highlight the following features:

  • Our new online field trip process must be completed via the Infinite Campus Parent Portal.
  • All online transaction fees have been waived, including payments made by credit card, debit card, and checking/savings account.
  • If a field trip is sponsored by the district, the cost of the trip is waived for families who are eligible and approved to receive free and reduced priced meals. (This will be communicated to impacted families.)

Our school secretary will be available to assist families as needed and if a parent/guardian is unable to complete the online field trip process, we can provide support in-person or over the phone.

We look forward to providing your child(ren) with enriching field trip experiences that contribute to their educational journey. We appreciate your continued partnership and engagement!
