A Note from the Principal

 

Dear Roosevelt Families,
This sure has been a busy, eventful school year… but we made it through! We want to say THANK YOU to you all for everything you have done to make it the best year possible. The students have learned and grown so much, and I am so proud of all of them. Congratulations to our 5th graders as they move onto middle school! We are so proud of you all and cannot wait to see all the amazing things you do in your future! 
Over the summer, the asphalt by the parking lots, playground and blacktop area in the back of the building is going to be replaced. The tentative dates for this project are June 21st through July 15th . When you see cones and the large construction equipment for the project on school grounds, please stay off the playground and blacktop area. Sometimes project dates fluctuate due to weather, other project timelines changing, etc., so thank you in advance for your cooperation and flexibility. It will look so nice coming back to the new blacktop in the fall!
It is bittersweet for us to share the retirements of three of our staff members this year. Kay Roehrig (4th grade teacher), Betty Glatting (2nd grade teacher), and Carol Neuser (Media & Library Instructional Specialist) are all retiring at the end of the school year. We are so grateful for the time and years we have had them as part of our Roosevelt Family and we know they have made a huge impact on so many students' lives. We want to thank them for their years of service and wish them all the best in this next chapter and adventure in their lives. They will all be missed dearly!
Similar to past years, we will be holding our beginning of the year Get To Know You Conference format for the 2021-22 school year for you to meet your teacher, share information about your child, etc! Our date next school year will be August 19th. An IC message will be sent to you in August with more details and information on your child’s teacher, times, how to sign up, if they are virtual or in person, etc.  
I want to wish you a wonderful, fun and relaxing summer! Please remember to take time to recharge as a family and keep reading and learning. See you all in September!

Social Skills

The social skill topic for May was summer safety. Staff members were looking for specific behaviors, such as following directions, respecting adults, and following the Roosevelt Way. Staff members have been handing out raffle tickets to students who were demonstrating these behaviors for a chance to win prizes.

A bingo celebration will be held on June 3rd, where students will enter their raffle tickets for an opportunity to win some fun prizes!

Information from the School Nurse...

6th Grade Immunization Requirements
(First dose given at age 11, before entering 6th grade)

Your 5th grade child will need the Tdap immunization before entering 6th grade as required by Wisconsin State Law.  

Please inform your school of the immunizations your child has received by emailing the school nurse your child’s name and date of immunization.

If you choose to sign a waiver, please contact your school office or click on this link https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/forms/f0/f04020l.pdf  to obtain the paperwork. On the paperwork, you will need to complete Step 1, Step 4 and Step 5, sign and return to your school before the start of 6th grade.

 


 


    Medications at School 

All medications are to be picked up by parent/guardian on or before the last day of school – (June 3, 2021). Our policy will not allow us to keep them for the next school year.

If you know your student will need medication next school year, we are asking you this summer to obtain an order from your doctor/nurse practitioner before the start of the next school year.  You can pick up this Medication\Treatment Request form from your school secretary before the end of this school year. A physician/nurse practitioner signature must accompany all medications/treatments intended for more than 10 days use.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call the Health office at 424-4092 Ext 3018. 

The medication/treatment form, when completed by you and your doctor, can be given to the school secretary along with the properly labeled container of medication at the start of the next school year.

 


 

 

Moving?

Please take the time to call the school office 424-0411 to advise us if you will be moving out of the Roosevelt attendance area. We need to be aware of any enrollment changes for the 2019-2020 school year. This will allow us to properly transfer records at the end of the school year. Thank you!


 

 

Food Service Account Balances

The Food Service Department has had another wonderful year providing meals to your children. The positive (and negative) balances in your family food service account will carry over the summer. The ending balance of the current school year 2020-2021 will automatically be your “STARTING BALANCE” in September 2021. If you have any questions, please call the Food Service Department at 424-4936. 

 


Library Books

It has been a great school year of library book reading, even though, we were virtual for four months.  I am so impressed with the reading dedication of all our students. I want to share the Top 10 Patrons at Roosevelt School:  Jonathan Czarnota 78 book check outs, Adalynn Her 65, Toheed Zahir 64, Jackson McMillan 63, Jeramiah Harsh-Webler 60, Erin Kuhaupt 60, Lauren Klosinski 54, Hadley Schettle 54, Raiden Donicht 53 and Dylan Duley with 52. That is how many books these students have checked out and read this school year.  Amazing! I am so proud of every student at Roosevelt for their love of reading. 

 Just a reminder that ALL library books were due Friday, May 28th. If books are not returned, you will be receiving a notice for the cost of the book(s). Please remember that library fines DO follow students every year until they are paid in full.

Food Service News

FREE AND REDUCED MEAL APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR will be available online on the Infinite Campus Parent Portal in mid-July and will also be mailed out in the US mail to all households in mid-July.  Please return your completed application to the Food Services Office, Oshkosh West High School, 375 N. Eagle St., Oshkosh, WI  54902, or the Elementary School Office your child attends on or before the first day of school.

 

LIMITED LUNCH SERVICE AT THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS are used when a student is very negative in their lunch account and the family has been notified by Food Service that service will cease if the account isn’t brought current.  If the student doesn’t bring a sack lunch or cash to pay for the lunch the Food Service Department will allow the student to eat a limited lunch.  The limited lunch will consist of 2 pieces of bread and a peanut butter cup (as the entrée) and then will be allowed to have the fruit, veggies and milk offered and the account will get charged accordingly for the limited lunch.  They will NOT be able to have their choice of an entrée.  

 

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES IN THE SCHOOL FOOD SERVICE DEPARTMENT

The food service department is seeking individuals to work for our department serving breakfast and / or lunch. The majority of these positions available are 1.5 - 2 hours in length and are during the breakfast and lunch service time, which varies with the school.  Opportunities for longer shifts and additional hours may also be available.  Please see the WECAN at https://wecan.education.wisc.edu website for employment opportunities along with applying for positions within the Food Service Department.
