A Note from the Principal

Dear Roosevelt Families,

Welcome to the 2021-22 school year! I hope you have been enjoying a wonderful, fun summer while staying safe and healthy! The 2021-22 school year will begin in a few days and we are so excited to welcome all the students back into the building. It was wonderful seeing so many student and family faces at Get to Know You Conferences. I know I can speak for the entire Roosevelt staff when I say we are excited and ready to begin another great year of learning with all of our students and families!

Here is a link to our Roosevelt School Family Handbook. Also linked inside of there is the overall OASD 21-22 School Year Plan as well.

Just a few reminders: Each school day begins at 7:45am. Supervision on the black top begins at 7:30 but students should arrive as close to 7:40 as possible. Remember that the playground is off limits before school and it is not an active recess time. Students should report right to their teacher designated line (look for signs the first two weeks to get in routine for where they are). The first bell will ring at 7:40 signaling for students to line up if they are not there yet. Staff will be outside on the back playground greeting students/families and helping them find their teacher lines at the start of the day. You will be able to recognize staff members in navy Roosevelt t-shirts the first day, so please let us know if you have any questions or need any help!

Students and staff are required to have a face covering through October 1st, 2021 with more guidance and direction from our school district central office as that date approaches. Students will need to make sure their face covering is on before entering the building in the morning with their teacher. Students and staff are able to take their masks off while eating and outside for recess, mask breaks, or learning outdoors.

The school day ends at 2:45pm. Just a reminder that all families need to wait outside of the building for students as they will be dismissed by their teacher. Students in grades K-2 will be dismissed by their teacher through doors 6, 7 or 8 and walk to the front of the building on Sawyer Street to find their parent/pick up person. Students in grades 3-5 will be dismissed out doors 2 and 3 and walked around to Coolidge Street to find their parent/pick up person. Any students riding the bus or their bike will exit out door 2.

The Roosevelt Staff and I look forward to another successful school year of growing and learning together! We thank you for your continued support of our school and the students' learning this year. I wish you all the best at the start of the year! We will see you all on Wednesday, September 1st for the first day of school!

New Staff Introductions...

Alexis Tesch - 1st Grade Teacher

Hi! My name is Alexis Tesch and I am a first grade teacher at Roosevelt Elementary School. This is my first year teaching, as I graduated from Judson University in Elgin, Illinois in May 2021. I can't wait to start the year and be a part of the Roosevelt family!

Keely Steger - Teacher Associate Building Sub

My name is Keely Steger and I will be the building sub this year! I'm new to the Oshkosh Area and have really been enjoying it so far! This past Spring I graduated from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point and I couldn't be more excited to be working at Roosevelt! I have a twin sister who is a first year Kindergarten teacher in Waupun. I also have a pet bird which I recently bought named Maka! Can't wait to start working with the staff at Roosevelt.

Andrew Leech - Physical Education Teacher

My name is Andrew Leech and I will be teaching PE here at Roosevelt and Washington Elementary. I have been teaching for about 3 years since being out of school and previously was in Clintonville where I taught Elementary, Adapted PE and Middle School PE and Health. I enjoy being active when I can as I know how important physical education is for everyone. I have one dog named Willow and recently got engaged in July to my Fiance Lindsey and have now set a date in October of 2023 for our wedding. I can't wait to get to know everyone and get to work in the Oshkosh District again as I have previously been a long term sub and done my student teaching in the district as well.

Welcome to the 2021-22 school year at Roosevelt! We are excited to welcome everyone back and meet our new families. We are looking forward to learning and growing together!

Each month, we will update you on the lessons and activities we are using to build social skills such as problem solving, empathy, and active listening. Through PBIS, we encourage and support positive behaviors by clearly stating what is expected in order to help students, families, and staff feel safe, happy, and included. School-wide expectations are posted in all areas of our school to serve as a reminder. Classrooms also create their own agreements to ensure everyone understands and models desired behaviors. Watch for lots of exciting PBIS news throughout the year!

Food Service News

FREE AND REDUCED MEAL APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR will be available online on the Infinite Campus Parent Portal in mid-July and will also be mailed out in the US mail to all households in mid-July.  Please return your completed application to the Food Services Office, Oshkosh West High School, 375 N. LIMITED LUNCH SERVICE AT THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS are used when a student is very negative in their lunch account and the family has been notified by Food Service that service will cease if the account isn’t brought current.  If the student doesn’t bring a sack lunch or cash to pay for the lunch the Food Service Department will allow the student to eat a limited lunch.  The limited lunch will consist of 2 pieces of bread and a peanut butter cup (as the entrée) and then will be allowed to have the fruit, veggies and milk offered and the account will get charged accordingly for the limited lunch.  They will NOT be able to have their choice of an entrée.

The food service department is seeking individuals to work for our department serving breakfast and / or lunch. The majority of these positions available are 1.5 - 2 hours in length and are during the breakfast and lunch service time, which varies with the school.  Opportunities for longer shifts and additional hours may also be available.  Please see the WECAN at website for employment opportunities along with applying for positions within the Food Service Department.
