A Note from the Principal

Dear Roosevelt Families,

December will be a quick three weeks before the start of winter break at Roosevelt! Our PTO Book Fair will take place in the gym from December 2-December 7th. There are various book fair hours during the week so see below:

Monday - Friday from 8:00-3:30

  • These times are subject to change. Please check out this link to sign up to volunteer to help work the book fair. We have to have volunteers for it to be open and there are still slots available. If there is an open slot not filled, the book fair will not be open at that time.

Saturday, Dec 7:  10:00-2:00pm (during the PTO Holiday Event)

Students will be able to go down to the book fair with their class at some point during the week with their class. Please consider checking out the book fair at some point in the week as well! RSVPs for Lunch with Someone Grand were already due and are required so we can plan accordingly. If you have not RSVPed and your child has someone that would like to come to the book fair on a different day (and it is open during the lunch hour which is 11:05-12:05), they are more than welcome to come Wednesday or Thursday.

We are looking forward to our Holiday Music Concert on Tuesday, December 10th at 6pm (students should arrive at 5:45pm) at the Alberta Kimball Auditorium (at Oshkosh West High School). Ms. Pribbernow and all the students have been practicing hard for their performances! Information has been sent home already on details, but a reminder will be coming home closer to the date. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s classroom teacher or Ms. Pribbernow.

The last day of school prior to winter break will be Friday, December 20th. Winter Break will last from Saturday, December 21st through Wednesday, January 1st. Classes will resume on Thursday, January 2nd.

I want to wish you all a very Happy Holiday Season and hope you all enjoy a wonderful and relaxing winter break! See you in 2020!

Sincerely,

Kristin Burgert

Roosevelt School Breakfast

Roosevelt will be serving breakfast in the gym before school starts.

Breakfast starts at 7:15 am and serves until 7:35 am. If your child will be dining with us in the morning, please have them arrive BEFORE 7:30 am so they have enough time to eat their breakfast before the school bell rings at 7:40 am.

If your student will NOT be eating breakfast, please drop them off on the playground at 7:30 am. Breakfast is done being served at 7:35 am.

Want to Win a Kwik Trip Gift Card?

Starting December 1 we will be handing out Family Beep Bucks for families who are supporting the relationship between home and school. Beep Bucks can be earned by communicating with teachers and attending school functions including family nights, conferences, PTO meetings, and PTO events. Additional Beep Bucks will be handed out at teacher discretion.

We will be “drawing” a winning beep buck from the raffle bucket on January 17th for the Kwik Trip gift card (end of the semester). Parents will be notified by their classroom teacher if they won the raffle prize!

Gift Store

In December, we are having a gift store for the students. Students will be able to use their beep bucks to “buy” gifts for their family members. Students will possibly be bringing home a wrapped gift that was purchased with their beep bucks from the gift store.

We still need donations for the gift store.  Please bring all donations to the office or to your classroom teacher by December 2nd.  Thank you in advance!

Donation examples: small toys, small knick-knacks, puzzles, games, coloring books, teddy bears, gift cards, vases, candles, picture frames, “dad gifts”, “mom gifts”, etc.

Kindness

Our November monthly mash-up was focused on kindness. Students talked about what kindness means, how to show it in different settings including school and home, and how it feels when you share an act of kindness. Mash up groups colored the letters in “kindness” and took a photo to share outside their classrooms.

Student of the Month

Each month Roosevelt staff nominate students who are following the Roosevelt Way for “Student of the Month” awards.  Congratulations to the following students who earned the honor in October: Caroline, Ethan, Hailey, Milania, Adalynn, Emerson, Jacob, Arieanna, Damien, Charm, and Gabby.

Parents Are Invited!Roosevelt logo 2015.jpg

We would love to have you join us for our monthly Mash-Up lesson. Students and staff work together in teams of mixed grade levels to complete an activity related to our weekly social skills lessons. Parents can join in on the fun and learning with their child’s Mash-Up group.

Please be our guest at the next Mash-Up!

Cold and flu season is fast approaching and we would like to remind you of a few items:

Good hand-washing is very important to limit the spread of illness.

  1. Cover your coughs and sneezes.

  2. Drink plenty of fluids and get plenty of rest.

  3. If your student has a fever, vomiting or diarrhea, they must be home symptom-free for 24 hours before returning to school.

Please refer to our Illness and Communicable Disease memo if you have further questions regarding your student’s illness. (453.3 Exhibit B).

Happy December!! This past month all classes have been doing the same thing; HOLIDAY MUSIC! I’m sure you have been hearing them practicing their songs at home, and even have materials and tracks to practice with. Our students have been working incredibly hard on their concert materials, and have taken on some challenging songs this year! We are extremely excited to share our music with you!

I know there are constant reminders going out, but I just wanted to share a couple of reminders for the concert again here.

  • Our concert is Tuesday, December 10th, at 6:00 pm. Our concert takes place at the Alberta Kimball Auditorium which is located at West High School. This is the same as it has been in the past.

  • Please arrive at 5:45, so students are able to get in order. Students will sit with their class during the concert. You can pick them up after the concert. PLEASE be sure to check out with your child’s teacher. We want all students to leave safely!

  • Kindergarten parents: Your students will meet their teachers in the hallway outside of the auditorium at the start of the concert. They will be the first to perform. After the kindergarten students perform, please come up to the stage and pick them up to sit with you for the remainder of the program! (SAVE THEM A SEAT!)

  • Please stay until the end of the concert. Our students will all sing a finale song to end the show. We want to showcase our school and a whole family! (Kindergarten students will sing from the audience)

  • We ask that students dress nice for the concert if possible. Colors do not matter. Please do not stress about fancy dress clothes! We want your child to be there perform, whether they are dressed up or not!

After our concert, and up until our winter break, students will spend some time reflecting on their performances and enjoying  a well deserved break from their hard work. We will celebrate in music with fun music games and activities! I hope to see you all at our December Winter program!

I will send out our next music newsletter in January!

Happy Holidays Everyone!
